Yet another iPhone network settings guide (APN, 3G settings).

Hello mates,

So I’ve seen you guys talking about editing you APN settings and how to enable it, modify it, etc.

I thought of sharing this with you as you guys always came up with new and creative stuff that I’ve always liked!

So heres the thing..iPhone keeps everything about your operator in specific location, then if you can find the file, open it, you will be able to customize it as you wish!

I am a Mac, so I will be talking from this concept, You need:

  1. Any software to copy the files with such as Cyberduck or DiskAid (Mac) or WinSCP or DiskAid (Windows) DOWNLOAD DISKAID FROM HERE BOTH OF YOU!
  2. Software to edit the “plist” files like PlistEdit Pro (Mac) or Plist Editor (Windows users you should really change to mac!) ;P
  3. Connect your ugly iPhone to it :P
  4. Go to “/User/Library/Carrier Bundle.bundle”
  5. You will find 5 files:
  • carrier.plist (have all kinds of network services on it)
  • Info.plist (have network information and useless stuff)
  • version.plist (contains the network version for upgrading purposes)
  • Default_…. (the colored version of operator’s logo which shows on any application)
  • FSO_…… (the grey version of operator’s logo which shows on home screen or when making calls)
  • —- TO CHANGE YOUR OPERATOR LOGO PLEASE REFER TO ITS TOPIC BY SEARCHING THE WEBSITE USING THE KEYWORD “Operator logo” —–
6- Make a folder called “Operator Original Files) & then copy “carrier.plist” to it.
7- AGAIN! make a backup for the file!!!!!!!
8- Double click it (not the backup of course!)
9- First thing you will find (AllowEDGEEditing) DONT TOUCH THE CLASS COLUMN! LEAVE IT AS IT IS FOR ALL ENTRIES!!
10- To its right you will find NO, click it, set it to YES
now you’ll be able to edit apn settings from your phone! (after you copy the new file of course!)
11- You still can edit it from here, go to the end of the plist you’ll find “apn”, collapse it
12- “0″ is for for the internet and edge settings (works great if you enable 3G too!), the default for vodafone are
APN: internet.vodafone.com.eg
Username: internet
Password: internet
Typemask: 49

“1″ for MMS settings:

APN: mms.vodafone.com.eg
Username: mms
Password: mms
Typemask: 4
“2″ for Visual voicemail setting (not used in egypt but anyway..):
same as edge setting but Typemask is “48
13- NOW save the file, copy it to same location
14- restart you ugly iPhone :P
IF YOU HAD ANY PROBLEMS JUST RESTORE YOUR BACKUP AND RESTART!!
Please consult me for any additional information about this post of iPhone generally :)
